Spanning over 284,000 square feet of new construction on three acres of the Goucher College campus, Edenwald’s INSPIRE expansion is planned to be comprised of three new residential towers, a vibrant outdoor plaza, and a collection of amenities and learning spaces unlike anything ever seen before in the region.
It is, in the most tangible sense, the manifestation of everything Edenwald stands for: that life is an ongoing personal journey of growth and discovery, and that everyone deserves the right to feel accepted, valued, and safe.
At the center of INSPIRE will be the three towers, collectively offering 125 residences. Tower 1 will stand 11 stories tall and hold 47 residences; Towers 2 and 3 will each rise to eight stories tall with 39 residences. Every residence will have access to underground parking, and a pedestrian bridge will connect INSPIRE directly to existing Edenwald buildings, making it easy to move seamlessly between the familiar and the new.
The one-bedroom and den, two-bedroom, and two-bedroom and den apartments will be exceptionally spacious, with floor plans ranging from 1,100 to 2,100 square feet. The apartments will feature open floor plans, modern amenities and floor-to-ceiling windows that will flood each home with natural light and offer sweeping views of the verdant Goucher College campus.
Spaces designed with intention.
Tower 1 will serve as the heartbeat of INSPIRE, and the variety of planned spaces in the building reflects the possibilities inherent in daily life in a college-enriched senior living community.
Two dedicated classrooms are designed to be flexible enough to accommodate any number of classes, lectures, meetings, workshops, and more. Along with the adjacent 45-seat theater, they honor Edenwald’s deep and longstanding partnership with Goucher College and our commitment to lifelong learning. The Plaza Level will also feature a dining venue with convenient options for Edenwald residents.
Edenwald’s commitment to holistic wellness will be most visible in a yoga suite that can also be flexible enough to accommodate classes both indoors and outdoors.
Above it all, Tower 1 will boast a rooftop multi-purpose event venue with indoor and outdoor seating. Whether you’re attending a presentation, hosting a celebration, or watching the sun set over Towson, it promises to deliver a genuinely special experience.
Where community gathers: The Plaza.
Between the three towers, the outdoor Plaza will serve as a natural gathering place for planned events and spontaneous encounters alike. The Plaza will be tastefully landscaped and offer pergolas, shade structures, and—as previously mentioned—an outdoor yoga area and café seating. It’s designed to be the kind of destination where you might arrive without an agenda, but find yourself staying longer than you intended.
Beyond the Plaza, you’ll have access to four miles of walking trails on the Goucher College campus. On any given morning, the line between “community” and “college campus” will feel refreshingly blurred.
A design that fits.
The architecture of INSPIRE is as intentional as its amenities. The design team answered the challenge of creating something that embraces both the mid-century modern character of the Goucher College campus and the residential warmth of the existing Edenwald buildings. The result is an addition that doesn’t call attention to itself, but gently takes root in the landscape.
